This bottom-up unisex hat looks great on both men and women!
The outward-facing purl stitches are great for blending colors or just making the hat both basic and something unusual.
Size
20’’ circumference (very stretchy) x 11’’ depth
Yarn
Berocco Ultra Alpaca Chunky (50% alpaca, 50% wool; 131 yards [120 meters]; 1 skein
Needles
Size US#10.5 (6.5mm) 32’’ Circular needle and dpns, size US #9 (5.5mm) 32’’ circular needle
Notions
removable markers, stitch holders, tapestry needle
Gauge
12 sts & 16 rnds in St st over a 4″x4″ square and using the larger needles.

Pattern Notes
Hat is very stretchy—for less slouch, work to 2’’/5cm less than indicated.
Hat Pattern
With smaller needles (US # 9/5.5mm) and tubular long tail CO, CO 60 sts. Pm & join for working in the rnd.
Work 2’’ (5 cm) of *k1,p1* rib.
Purl I rnd.
Switching to larger needles, *k29,p1* rep from * once more. Cont as est until hat measures 11.5’’ long.
Finishing
With RS facing, align needles to prepare for grafting. Front needle should have 29 knit stitches to your right and 1 purl stitch on far left. Graft live sts together (starting with purl stitch on the back and knit stitch on the front). Alternately, for a fun extra seam you can flip hat inside out and work 3 needle BO
Flip hat inside out and carefully weave in ends. Fold points of hat flat down towards each other reaching across the crown and meeting in the middle. Seam two points together and anchor to center of crown.
Block gently!

About the Designer: Alicia Plummer
Designing for me is like writing a novel expressing everything I’m feeling and doing and thinking. Color, lines, fit, can tell a story, and I love seeing how others interpret and knit up my stories.
I’m messy, disorganized, and loving. I design because I wear my heart on my sleeve, and designing is a perfect outlet for self-expression. I’m heavily influenced by the rustic beauty of our old farmhouse and my small town here in rural Maine. I’m thankful for my blessings and try to follow Jesus to the best of my ability. My heart overflows with his love!
My aim is to design things that have the down home comfort of New England but are also everyday items that someone can grab and throw on and still look good.
I have a wonderful group with my dear friend and design partner, Melissa called Plum Dandi. We do giveaways, knit alongs, test calls, and fun threads all the time and I must say we have some of the nicest Ravelers around!
